Hillsborough School Board’s move to close charter schools and strip Tampa-area families of school choice is illegal.
Statement from Lynn Norman-Teck, Executive Director of the Florida Charter School Alliance, on today’s unanimous vote by the State Board of Education finding the Hillsborough school board’s decision to close four public charter schools was illegal.
July 14, 2021 —“Thank you to the state Board of Education for supporting families and putting students first.
Their decision today to condemn the actions of the Hillsborough School Board for attempting to strip Tampa-area families of school choice by closing four charter schools is a win for all families and echos state education laws that give parents have a choice and a voice in their child’s education.
We also appreciate the unwavering support families, teachers, and schools have received from Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran.
Everyone in the charter movement is extremely grateful that our elected officials and Governor are committed to raising the quality of education in our state and protecting school choice.”
