School Leaders Fellowship Cohort 2 Selected

September 9, 2022 — The Class of 2023 School Leaders Fellows have been selected.  The Fellows will begin the program on October 19, 2022, at the Florida Charter School Conference.
Developed by the FCSA and funded by a grant from the Florida Department of Education through the U.S. Department of Education’s CSP, the program helps develop charter school leaders. The program goes beyond traditional leadership training by immersing participants in charter school best practices, mentorship opportunities with veteran charter administrators, sessions led by knowledgeable instructors with decades of district and charter school experience, and more.

 

Cohort 2 / Class of 2023 School Leaders Fellows:

  • Olivia Bernal – Mentor Principal, AcadeMir Middle School of Math and Science and AcadeMir Charter School East Middle (Miami Dade County)
  • Valeria Blandino – Principal, AcadeMir Charter School of Osceola (Duval County)
  • Jeffrey Colavecchio – Assistant Testing Coordinator, Instructor, and ESE Coordinator, Everglades Preparatory Academy (Palm Beach County)
  • Dianet De Armas – Principal, South Pointe Scholars Academy (Miami-Dade County)
  • John Galeani – Director of Human Resources, Global Outreach Charter Academy (Duval County)
  • Alyssa Gibson – Assistant Principal, Tradition Preparatory High School (St. Lucie County)
  • Bethany Johnson – Lead Teacher, San Jose Cyber & San Jose Prep (Duval County)
  • Michael Kupka – ESE Support / Assistant Dean, Tradition Preparatory High School (St. Lucie County)
  • Erica Leatherbarrow – Assistant Admin/Testing Coordinator, River City Science Academy Intercoastal (Duval County)
  • Ilya Sorok – Chief Executive Officer, Global Outreach Charter Academy (Duval County)
  • Monica Suarez – Dean of Curriculum, True North Classical Academy Kendall/Gateway (Miami-Dade County)
  • Yakup Ustaomer – Dean of Academics, River City Science Academy Intercoastal (Duval County)
  • Jasmine Williams – Race and Equity Specialist, Montessori Instructor, Coach, Consultant serving multiple charter schools (Escambia County)

The goal of the School Leaders Fellowship is to develop a robust pipeline of strong, effective, and visionary charter school leaders. It also provides participants an opportunity to connect with principals and emerging school leaders statewide. This tuition-free Fellowship was designed specifically for individuals working at a public charter school for five years or less, who are passionate about education and interested in leading a high-quality school in a high-need area. Priority enrollment is given to individuals working at a charter school that applied for and are eligible to receive the CSP sub-grant from the Florida Department of Education.  Sessions cover a full range of topics essential to school leaders including Charter School Law, Parent and Community Engagement, District Relations, Charter School Operations, and School Finances.
