Report: Teacher Sentiment on the State of Public Education

Press releases

August 9, 2023 — We are excited about the release of the Listen to Your Teacher: An Analysis of Teacher Sentiment on the State of Public Education report. This comprehensive report is based on the results of a national survey conducted by The Harris Poll and commissioned by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. The survey included over 1,200 public school teachers, both from district and charter schools. While the report does not include specific information about Florida, it provides valuable insights into the views of teachers across the country.

One of the key findings of the report is that teachers, regardless of whether they work in district or charter schools, support educational choice. This highlights the importance of providing options and flexibility in education. While we may have hoped for Florida-specific information in this report, we look forward to future research that will shed light on the unique perspectives of teachers in the state.

According to the report the “experiences of charter school teachers seem to be particularly special; they are more satisfied with their jobs than district school teachers (97% vs. 83%)—and appear more motivated the longer they teach.”  The FCSA has seen this first hand — we have interviewed educators over the years about their passion for teaching and why they chose to work at a charter school.  Here is a conversation we had with Ms. Cielo Acosta, a charter school alumnus, charter school teacher, and a recipient of the 2023 annual Changemaker Award.

The Listen to Your Teacher report serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, educators, and anyone interested in understanding the current state of public education. It provides a comprehensive analysis of teacher sentiment and sheds light on the challenges and opportunities facing our education system.

We encourage you to read the report, share it with your stakeholders, and engage in meaningful discussions about how we can improve education for all students.
