Post-Storm News, Assistance for Charter Schools

Uncategorized

As you assess damage from Hurricane Irma, let us know how your campus fared and how we can help.   We have been in contact with various assistance organizations as well as the Department of Education in an effort to connect schools in need with assistance providers.  There is useful information below.  If you need more details or have issues not addressed below, please contact us immediately.

We are here to help.

Get help assessing damage & identifying recovery funds

The FCSA team encourages you to contact Building Hope, a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. that provides a full range of support, including helping secure financing for facilities, to public charter schools across the nation. Building Hope is providing free damage assessments to charter schools and relaying information about recovery funds that has been established to assist charter schools with financing any needed repairs.  They not affiliated with the state’s emergency response; these are additional resources that may be available to schools affected by Hurricane Irma. If your school would like to take advantage of the Florida Recovery Fund service, please visit FloridaCharterFund.org to complete a brief survey regarding the damage your school has experienced.

Make up days

Florida Commissioner of Education, Pam Stewart, waived two days of instructional time as a result of required school closures due to Hurricane Irma.  Charter schools must decide how students will make up lost school days. They may be made up by using school holidays — unless the state waives its rules.   Click here to read the FLDOE memo.

Revised Testing Schedule

The Florida Department of Education issued a Revised Fall 2017 Retake and EOC testing schedule. Click here to see the testing schedule.
