Brian Garcia, a senior at Palm Glades Preparatory Academy in Miami, was named winner of the 2020 Florida Charter School Alliance (FCSA) Holiday Greeting Card Design Contest. Held every year, the contest is open to K-12 students attending an FCSA member school.
Brian’s whimsical design beat out dozens of submissions from around the state and was used to create the official FCSA holiday greeting card. That holiday card is sent to member schools, legislators, and stakeholders. He will receive a $100 gift card for designing the winning entry.
“All the submissions were creative and really showcased how talented charter school students are. Brian’s design included some of our favorite things about Florida while also inspiring holiday cheer,” said Lynn Norman-Teck, FCSA Executive Director.
We also want to recognize Brian’s art teacher, the exceptional and talented Ms. Natassia Loth, for encouraging her students to enter the contest. Despite the pandemic, Ms. Loth has continued — via remote learning and in-person classes – to inspire her students to create and express themselves through art. Eighteen of her students were recently accepted to the 2020 Winter Celebrating Art Contest publication, and Ms. Loth received the Teacher of Distinction Award, which recognizes a teacher for having 15 or more students accepted for publication.
Located in Miami Dade County, Palm Glades Preparatory Academy – a Charter School Associates school — offers an award-winning visual arts program in middle and high school.
