Cielo Acosta is an extraordinary young woman. At 15, she took a leap of faith and enrolled in a brand new charter school in her neighborhood. She is now a teacher there — working with students that are growing up in her neighborhood and who face the challenges she did not so long ago.
That charter school, SLAM! Miami, became her second home and its teachers and administrators became mentors who encouraged her and, she says, saw something in her that she hadn’t discovered yet.
