August 10, 2023 — The American businessman Clarence Francis once said “You cannot buy loyalty. You cannot buy the devotion of hearts, minds, and souls. You have to earn these things.” This quote came to mind this week as students went back-to-school. With close to 400,000 students attending or returning to a Florida charter school, there is no doubt that charter schools have earned the loyalty of students and their families.
For 27 years, charter schools have been giving Florida’s families a quality educational option — freeing students from the required zone school and allowing families to find a school that best meets their child’s talents and needs. The charter school movement in our state has grown thanks to legislators who continue to support parental choice and charter schools, thanks to the dynamic educators who have driven charter schools to be better, and thanks to the parents who have chosen charter schools for their children’s education.
As we celebrate the start of another school year, the Florida Charter School Alliance (FCSA) wants to acknowledge the dedication and success of charter schools in our state. Charter schools have not only provided families with an alternative educational path but have also fostered a sense of loyalty and devotion among their students and the community they serve. The commitment shown by charter school teachers and administrators to earning the trust and respect of their students and families is truly exceptional.
We recognize the importance of parental choice in education and the role that charter schools play in providing that choice. By offering a diverse range of educational approaches and programs, charter schools have empowered families to find the best fit for their child’s unique talents and needs. This freedom of choice has been instrumental in creating a thriving charter school movement in our state.
We extend our gratitude to the legislators who have championed parental choice and supported the growth of charter schools in Florida. Their dedication to empowering families and providing educational opportunities has been vital in shaping the success of charter schools.
To the volunteer governing board members who dedicate their time and expertise, thank you for believing in charter schools. Your vision and commitment to creating a better school is the bedrock of your charter school’s success and vital part of the movements growth.
To the educators who have tirelessly worked to improve and innovate, thank you for your unwavering commitment to the students you serve. Your passion and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and we are proud to have you as part of the charter school community.
Finally, we want to express our deepest appreciation to the parents who have chosen charter schools for their children’s education. Your trust and faith in these schools have been instrumental in their continued success.
As we embark on another school year, let us celebrate the loyalty and success of Florida charter schools. The FCSA is honored to be the voice of Florida’s charter school movement and pledges to continue to support our member schools and all the charter schools in the state. Together, we will ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
