Principal, Teachers Deliver Honor Roll Signs to Students

Orlando, FL, – April 21, 2020 – Students from Pinecrest Preparatory Charter School in Orlando who made the Honor Roll, Principal’s Honor, or Student of the Month received a special delivery this week.

The Principal, Mrs. Lumpuy, and several teachers each drove around town putting up signs in students’ yards recognizing their amazing accomplishments.

The Honor Roll sign idea came about when the teachers and principal were thinking about ways to connect with their students during distance learning. On March 23rd, students at Pinecrest Preparatory, a public charter school, began live, online learning with their teachers and classmates. The students have adapted well and feedback from parents has been positive. However, the Pinecrest team felt they needed to do something more. So this week, close to 100 recognition signs will be delivered to students. Teachers also received signs that read “A Pinecrest Academy Distance Learning Expert lives here!”

“Delivering signs to students’ homes has been an amazing experience,” said Mrs. Lumpuy. “I love seeing a student’s reaction when they first see the sign. It’s also given us a chance to recognize our wonderful educators – who have transitioned to virtual teaching instantly and have done a great job keeping students engaged and learning.”

According to a recent Education Week poll,  76 percent of students and 66 percent of teachers are in lower spirits than they were before the crisis (National Survey Tracks Impact of Coronavirus on Schools: 10 Key Findings, April 22, 2020).  The delivery of lawn signs by the Pinecrest Prep team aims to boost everyone’s spirit and keep students engaged and excited about learning.  Pinecrest Preparatory Charter School is part of the Pinecrest Academy family of high-quality public charter schools operating in Florida. The Pinecrest schools work with Academica, an education service provider.
