FLDOE Issues School Safety Guidance Letter for Charter Schools

July 1, 2019 – Guidance from FLDO – As we prepare for the start of another academic year, school safety remains a top priority for all Florida public schools, including charter schools. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act was passed and signed into law last year, laying the groundwork for a massive overhaul of school safety-related policies. During the 2019 Legislative Session, legislators built upon that foundation by including language specific to charters.
To ensure the safety of all Florida students and school personnel, Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran has outlined guidance regarding statutory obligations in the letter linked here: School Safety_GUIDANCE for Charter Schools_6.28.19
If you have any questions, the department’s Office of Safe Schools is available to provide assistance at SafeSchools@fldoe.org.
