32 Mater Lakes Academy seniors graduate high school with 2-year college degree

Miami-Dade County, FL – As most seniors around the state are planning their trip to Grad Bash or counting down the days till summer, thirty- two students at Mater Lakes Academy are picking up their cap & gown for an upcoming college graduation.  These 32 are part of the school’s vibrant dual enrollment program that encourages students to take college courses while in high school.  These students earned enough college credits — through college courses and AP classes — to get a 2-year college degree.

“These 32 Mater Lakes Academy “stars” will be among the 1200+ graduating students who will walk across the stage at the Miami Dade College North Campus Commencement,” said Dr. Malou Harrison, North Campus President for Miami Dade College. “What a phenomenal sense of pride and accomplishment for these students, their high school and families.”

The Class of 2017 at Mater Lakes Academy, a public charter school, has 249 students and it’s the largest graduating class in the school’s history. Seventy-eight of those students will be graduating Cum Laude.

“It has been a pleasure to have helped these students in the development and growth of their post-secondary education. I look forward to see their accomplishments in the future and their impact in our community,” said Mr. Rene F. Rovirosa, Principal at Mater Lakes Academy.
