March 14, 2017 – On a mission to share their stories of success, students and teachers from the City of Hialeah Educational Academy visited the state capital this week. The group — all minority students excelling in their school’s college prep program — met with legislators and had lunch with FCSA’s Director of Governmental Affairs, Ralph Arza who addressed their questions about the legislative process and encouraged them to continue their outreach to lawmakers after returning home.
The school’s principal, Carlos Alvarez, spoke before a PreK-12 Quality Subcommittee about HB 773 / Fewer, Better Tests legislation.
The City of Hialeah Academy is one the state’s top schools. Mr. Alvarez, recently received TaxWatch’s Principal Leadership Award, and the school has been recognized as one the best schools in the country by several publications including The Washington Post, US News&World Report, and Newsweek.
