Statement from Lynn Norman-Teck, Executive Director of the Florida Charter School Alliance, on the state Board of Education naming Senator Manny Diaz, Jr. as the Commissioner of Education, April 29, 2022
While serving in the Florida House and Senate, Manny Diaz, Jr. worked tirelessly on behalf of teachers, students, and families to enhance the quality of K-12 education and school choice.
We are excited about his appointment as Florida Commissioner of Education. His experience as a public school teacher, coach, parent, and legislator gives him a comprehensive perspective on what teachers and schools need, as well as what families and students need to achieve academically – that includes protecting education choice so that every student has the opportunity to attend a school that best fits their talents and needs. We look forward to working with Commissioner Manny Diaz. Jr.
We want to thank Commissioner Richard Corcoran for his leadership and unwavering dedication to students, teachers, and families. He led the department through unprecedented times and fearlessly advocated for children — calling for schools to reopen and for learning to continue. We will forever be grateful for his guidance and support.
